Former Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed has demonstrated his belief in modern medicine after undergoing a liver transplant.
Reed’s wife Laurie Anderson announced the shocking news of his liver transplant that had taken place sometime last month in Cleveland. In the first official statement, Anderson revealed Reed was “dying” of liver failure. The surgery was not only necessary but life-saving.
This news explains why the rocker cancelled his appearance at Coachella.
Reed gives all the credit for his health and longevity to todays modern medicine and the effects of practicing regular tai chi.
Reed reflected on his website stating,
“I am a triumph of modern medicine, physics and chemistry. I am bigger and stronger than stronger than ever. My Chen Taiji and health regimen has served me well all of these years, thanks to Master Ren Guang-yi. I look forward to being on stage performing, and writing more songs to connect with your hearts and spirits and the universe well into the future.”
Wife Anderson doesn’t believe Reed will “ever truly recover”, however, Reed has given us all a renewed hope for modern medicines and the miracles they can achieve.
We all hope to see Lou Reed back on stage again soon being just as charismatic and magnetic as always.
