Jack White’s label is at it again. Third Man Records plans to reissue two songs that have never before been heard!
Although Rockfire Funk Express was never able to officially release a single, in 1973 they recorded a two-song single out of Detroit. Brothers David, Dennis, and Bobby Hackney, put their heads together creating an a-side detailing an early funk tone along with the b-side which outlines crude instrumentals.
These works have been undiscovered for nearly 40 years until now.
Rockfire Funk Express quickly formed into a punk band they called Deathand were able to release a comprised collection of 1974 recordings entitled “For the Whole World to See.” With the help of Third Man Records, and the release of the documentary entitled “A Band Called Death,” the original works of Rockfire Funk Express will finally be heard.
The legend behind The Underwear Heads begins as a band that not many thought actually existed. The only proof that most avid punk collectors believed stemmed from an empty EP sleeve. The truth to this story is that there really was a record that was destroyed due to a manufacturing error that rendered all copies defective.
Third Man Records did some digging and will be releasing the 7″ vinyl including 6 self-recorded songs featuring empirical drum work and some old school punk rhythm.
You can listen to both released below.
