There’s an almost singular focus to Deerhunter’s latest record, Monomania, a ragged collection of songs that strip away some of the more ethereal elements that haunted the band’s last album. Bradford Cox sounds at once angry and vulnerable, at times channeling an intensity that calls to mind the group’s earliest work. And if his antics during his recent performance on Jimmy Fallon were any indication, you won’t want to miss Deerhunter’s return to Chicago in September.
