The Clash Announce “Best Box Set Ever” Set for September 2013 Release

Punk rock legends The Clash are set to release a massive box set come September. Guitarist Mick Jones has claimed it to be the “best box set ever,” and he’s most likely correct.

The Clash formed in 1976 England at the inception of the punk rock movement, and released five fantastic LPs in their ten year career. One of which, London Calling, was named the best album of the 1980’s by Rolling Stone. Their activity in recent years has been minimal, although guitarist Mick Jones formed a new band, Carbon/Silicon, in 2002. Bassist Paul Simonon and Jones appeared on “Plastic Beach,” the title track from Gorillaz’ 2010 album of the same name. The two later joined Gorillaz on their supporting world tour.

The set will include remastered editions of their five albums as well as three discs of singles, rarities, B-sides and demos. It also comes with a DVD of all their music videos and some unseen footage from filmmakers Julian Temple and Don Letts. If that wasn’t enough, there will also be reprints and one new issue of Armagideon Time (the band’s fanzine named after their song of the same title), a poster, stickers, and other goodies. All of it is wrapped up in a package designed by Paul Simonon to look like an old-school boombox.

The Sound System box set will be released on September 9th in the UK and 10th in the US.
