Slayer fans remain stunned following the news of guitarist Jeff Hanneman’s death in early May, but good news has arrived with announcement of a memorial for the musician.
Following years of Hanneman’s struggle against Necrotizing fasciitis infection from a spider bite, his cause of death has now been determined as alcohol-related cirrhosis. News of his passing has resulted in public outpouring for him and his band, including from us here at mxdwn.
It has been revealed fans will have an opportunity to honor the late guitarist at the Jeff Hanneman Memorial Celebration, which will begin at 3:30pm PST on Thursday, May 23, at the Hollywood Palladium. Fans of all ages are welcome to attend, as the event will be free and open to the public on a first-come, first-in basis. Unfortunately for many, this might include those of the Westboro Parish Church, who intend to protest at the funeral.
Regardless of the outcome, the memory of Hanneman’s involvement with Slayer, as well as his guitar prowess, will forever remain etched in the minds of fans and critics alike.
