The Westboro Parish Church is planning to protest Jeff Hanneman’s funeral. Read More for details.
The metal world was shocked early last week when Slayer announced the passing of guitarist Jeff Hanneman. Hanneman hasn’t toured with Slayer for years due to lingering sicknesses but he was still considered a full fledged member of the band.
In their usual showcase of disrespect the Westboro Parish Church is organizing a protest of Hanneman’s funeral. The Westboro chuch has made a name for themselves protesting at the funerals of dead U.S. soldiers and outside of rock concerts for bands like Radiohead and the Foo Fighters. The Westboro group is planning on singing their own version of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” at the funeral. They made their annoucement via Twitter which read:
WBC to #picket funeral of Jeff Hanneman, singing our #CrazyTrain parody at full voice: http://mp3twit.com/dHM #PartyForSlayer cc: @slayer
NME reports a counter protest is being planning by Slayer fans and supporters. This situation could quickly turn messy as some are suggesting arming themselves with water baloons filled with red paint.
Funeral arrangements have yet to be made, or announced, but in the mean time you can read mxdwn’s Tribute to Jeff Hanneman.
