Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three years of prison time in addition to three months if house arrest.
Consequence of Sounds reports Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months of prison time for her tax evasion charges. The singer plead guilty to intentionally not paying taxes between 2005 and 2007. She explained via Tumblr that this was during a time she spent away from society. Despite this she owed the government $975,000 in back taxes and will have to serve three months of prison time plus an additional three months of time under house arrest.
To assist with her law trouble she signed with Sony Music and will be releasing new material which might culminate in her first album in fifteen years. Over the weekend she released single “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)” but not by her own choice. She explained on her Tumblr that the record company made her release it but she is glad to be getting the message out there.
