As Beats Per Minute reported earlier today, of Montreal have finished working on their new album, Lousy With Sylvianbriair. It’s been just over a year since the band has released new material.
The album was recorded at front-man Kevin Barnes home-studio, using a 24-track tape machine.
Barnes has been extremely busy in the past year. Not only has he had time to record a full-length album, but he’s also released a compilation album, funded a Kickstarter campaign to release a documentary, and is gearing up for national tour.
No track listing or release date has been announced yet, but Barnes did have this to say about the new album:
It is pretty different from Paralytic Stalks. Definitely more G Parsons than K Penderecki this time around. I wrote most of the songs while on a self imposed isolation experiment in San Francisco earlier this year, and we recorded it, over a two week period, about a month after i got back to Athens. I was influenced by the poetry of Sylvia Plath (hence the reference in the title), plus artists like the Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Flying Burrito Brothers…
Keep an eye out for more details.
