Cross My Heart Hope To Die – Cross My Heart Hope To Die EP

This is a Secret Worth Sharing

DJ Muggs is keeping himself busy. After releasing his solo record Bass For Your Face released at the beginning of this year, he’s back with a motley crew on Cross My Heart Hope To Die. This quartet’s self-titled EP serves as a nice introduction to what may come from these folks. Consisting of turntable all-star DJ Muggs, producer extraordinaire and founding member of the hardcore band Strife, Andrew Kline, singer-songwriter Brevi, and journalist/activist/hacker Sean Bonner combining their talents, CMHHTD comes together like Voltron to form something larger than themselves.

“Wild Side” starts off the record with a slow tempo. Brevi comes out with guns blazing using her voice as a weapon trying to stop anyone within earshot dead in their tracks. Lyrics like “I want to dance with the devil tonight/I want to know what it feels like,” and “What’s the use fighting for my salvation/And why does it feel so damn right to want to be so wrong,” show the dark tendencies this dame is leaning towards.

On the track “Lover,” Brevi starts off telling us that she “has an idea of a place we can go to/it’s cozy, nice and warm” and she desperately wants show it to us. The best part about this place is that in the morning she’s making eggs and biscuits, and her fridge is stocked with juice. Now you can use your imagination as to what takes place in between the time of your arrival and when you wake up to the smell of Pillsbury baking but give the girl credit — she’s one hell of a hostess.

DJ Muggs and Andrew Kline have done a great job creating a cinematic backdrop for vocalist Brevi before which to parade her talents. Cross My Heart Hope To Die may at first seem like a peculiar grouping, but one thing these four have in common is talent.
