Rocket From The Crypt, Vista Chino, Dead Sara, Matt Clarke and Calico, as well as a semi-reunion of the original Infectious Grooves line up are the latest additions to the The Orion Music + More Festival, taking place on June 8-9, 2013 at Belle Isle in Detroit, MI.
Original Infectious Grooves members, vocalist Mike Muir and guitarist Dean Pleasants (currently of Suicidal Tendencies), drummer Stephen Perkins (of Janes Addiction), along with guitarist Jim Martin (ex-Faith No More and filling in for original guitarist and ex-Excel Adam Siegel) will be taking part that weekend and added to the 30+ band lineup spreading amongst five stages.
Trujillo commented on the Infectious Grooves on the Orion Music + More appearance:
“To reunite with those guys after 22 years is going to be really special for me. Orion is the perfect place for that to happen…I’m looking forward to it.”
Infectious Grooves was formed in 1989 after current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo joined Suicidal Tendencies. Shortly after, Muir and Trujillo began writing songs with friends that was centered around the bass, as well as giving more freedom to the rest of the band.
Muir explained the vibe around Infectious Grooves:
“Sex Pistols and Parliament were my two favorite bands when I was young. People think they’re completely different but I saw a lot of similarities, even if musically they were categorized as completely different styles. There’s something beautiful about breaking rules that never should have been made.”
For the rest of the festival, Vans will be bringing once again a full vert ramp, featuring pro skating demos alongside the live music. They will be featuring four Vans x Metallica footwear signature models at Orion, including two Kill ‘Em All styles.
Returning to the festival are James Hetfield’s Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk Hammett’s Crypt, Lars Ulrich’s Hit The Lights Film Tent and Robert Trujillo’s Vert Ramp alongside the Metallica Museum and other attractions.
Detroit restauranteur Phil Cooley of Slows BBQ will be providing food within the …And Food For All area, making sure the music fans are well fed and hydrated throughout the weekend.
