Dickies and KarmaLoop chose Icona Pop to end their day shows this year at Lustre Pearl, and for good reason. The high-energy Swedish electro-pop pair worked the crowd into an early frenzy Thursday night, keeping the full house jumping from start to finish. The set heavily featured driving synth beats, opening with a dubstep-tinged version of the Passion Pit “Manners” cover that put the duo on the map. They kept the crowd going remixing their live vocals to create complex electronic beats through newer songs like “Ready For The Weekend”, sipping on Lone Stars and dancing with the best of them. Between anecdotes about how they met at a house party 4 years ago and how grateful they were to be playing to a sea of SXSW fans, they kept the party going all the way through the scream-along favorite “I Love It”. Catch them for a concert if you can, they definitely know how to put on a show!
