Wampire’s debut LP “Curiosity” is out May 14th via Polyvinyl, but in the meantime the duo are on tour with Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Foxygen, along with various performances at SXSW.
Rocky Tinder and Eric Phipps create enticingly original music driven by strong, dark melodies and laidback vibes. In the vibrant Portland, Oregon scene, they caught the attention of labelmates STRFKR and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, whose bassist Jacob Portrait produced “Curiosity.”
The album allegedly came together through fragmented and distorted ideas, lyrics and melodies that found direction steadily as the three highly talented musicians worked together in the studio to breathe new life into forgotten ideas and improvise new ones. Due to this lack of structure, the album fell together naturally and peacefully, rather than forcefully. The result is bound to be a stunning display of collaborative artistry; “Spirit Forest” is relaxed and introspective while the band’s other single “The Hearse” is a more chaotic pop effort featuring an organ.
Wampire’s murky bass grooves and sensual lyrics catch your attention from the beginning and don’t let go.
The band is in the midst of a whirlwind North American tour and will also perform at SXSW on various occasions. Dates are as follows.
