The Knife Premiers New Video “A Tooth For An Eye”

Swedish pop duo The Knife returns to the public eye with the premier of their new video titled “A Tooth For An Eye.” Its the second single to launch mainstream from their upcoming LP Shaking the Habitual. This will be their first album to release in nearly eight years and their almost sure to resurface with a bang.

A total of thirteen tracks are included, all of whom summed together reaches just about 100 minutes in length. Needless to say, ‘Knife’ fans can expect to receive more than enough music to make up for the lost time.

The album, and this single in particular, portrays an alternative point of view to gender, and power roles in our present society. This video, for instance, depicts a small female child as the dominant figure head in a aerobics room filled with powerfully built men. The men are set behind her, and she leads them, in a sort of ritual type dance where they follow her every move. Here is how The Knife themselves describe the video:

‘A Tooth For An Eye’ deconstructs images of maleness, power and leadership. Who are the people we trust as our leaders and why? What do we have to learn from those we consider inferior? In a sport setting where one would traditionally consider a group of men as powerful and in charge, an unexpected leader emerges. A child enters and allows the men to let go of their hierarchies, machismo and fear of intimacy, as they follow her into a dance. There is no shame in her girliness, rather she possesses knowledge that the men lost a long time ago.

Yes, Shaking the Habitual is certainly a title fit for this album’s themes and ideals. The LP debuts April 9th, but “A Tooth For An Eye” is ready now, so check it out below. Have fun!
