June will find Toronto-based Austra releasing their sophomoric Olympia, and the band will soon be bouncing back and forth between the U.S. and Europe for touring in support of it.
Austra has spent the 3 years following their debut release of Feel It Break touring with such acts as Grimes, the Gossip and the xx, and life on the road helped the band become a more collaborative effort than before. Olympia promises to be a dance record lush with electronic sounds, but contains no programming and loops – everything recorded was done live, in the studio, with the addition of marimbas and congos from drummer Maya Postepski.
Songwriter/vocalist Katie Stelmanis spoke of the importance of Postepski, who Stelmanis has played with for eight years following their first band, Galaxy, in this newest release.
“Maya played a huge role in the production of the album. There is a major percussive element running through every song,” she laughs, “this is the album where we discovered rhythm.”
The album’s lead single “Home” is now available on SoundCloud, and below is the complete track listing from the upcoming album, to be released June 18.
