Foxygen, the biggest up and coming retro dream-pop, indie-psych band will be playing Brick & Mortar Music Hall on their first headlining tour through San Francisco. They just opened at the Great American Music Hall on a sold out Unknown Mortal Orchestra bill in early February, and their headlining May tour in NYC sold out in 30 minutes – their Brooklyn show in 2 days. So, get your tickets now – don’t wait! Next time around they will not be playing such an intimate venue as Brick & Mortar.
The band started back in high school with Sam France and Jonathan Rado. The Clash, The Beatles, The Doors, The Kinks, Bowie – all the great classics have been their direct influences and the music is full of all sorts of crescendos, riffs and vocals reminiscent of these 60’s and 70’s stylings. Now around 22 years old, the duo released two records in 2012 – Take the Kids off Broadway – a collection of past songs recorded in Astoria, NY, and with a new band at the neo-legendary National Freedom studio (via Richard Swift): We are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic.
Strange Victory Touring paired up with High Roads to add an exceptional opener – Sam Flax – to make this show one not to miss. Sam Flax is another impressive up and coming with just one record to date – Age Waves on Burger Records Feb. 2012 sold out 250 cassette tapes and vinyl is on sale now. A little less retro than Foxygen, albeit Pink Floyd, Blondie, and some 80’s funk can definitely be heard through their dark synths, bass lines, and electric guitars.
