Trent Reznor’s band, How to Destroy Angels, and the Beastie Boys have contributed to a new music service, Twilio SMS.
Twilio SMS streams songs over the phone before sending it’s users a link to download via text message. The project was started by Ian Rogers, CEO of Beats. Reznor is the creative chief at Beats. The service is offering downloads of two tracks: “And the Sky Began to Scream” by How to Destroy Angels, and “Shadrach” by the Beastie Boys. Here’s how the service works:
When you dial (310) 299-8756, press two and choose what artist you’d like to leave a message for. For Beastie Boys, press one. For Trent Reznor, press two. Once you leave a message, press pound and stay on the line. You’ll then hear the new track you just unlocked. After you hang up, you’ll get a text via Twilio SMS with a link to download the track you just heard.
According to Twilio SMS, the service is still a work in progress. Additional tracks will be added soon.
