Dave Grohl performed with his supergruop known as the Sound City Players at an event coinciding with the release of Grohl’s documentary Sound City. Consequence of Sound reports the concert went on for over three hours with more than 40 songs played. Antiquiet describes the experience as a series of mini-sets with Grohl being the only constant who stayed on the stage performing the whole time. Everyone else rotated on and off the stage, performing when necessary.

Alain Johannes fronted a set of five songs with a Queens of the Stone Age theme. The song “Hangin’ Tree” was a highlight especially with Grohl rocking the bass.

Chris Goss of Masters of Reality played a high energy mini-set with Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk. Two of their highlights were “Domino” and “She Really Got Me”.

Fear’s Lee Ving performed a set of six songs. The Hollywood Reporter writes how special it was for Grohl to be playing with Fear because they were the band he heard at age twelve that inspired him to be a musician. One of their highlights was “I Love Living in the City”.

Rick Springfield played a beautiful version of Sammy Hager’s “I’ve Done Everything For You” with his section of the new band. He was joined on stage with Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Krist Noveselic of Nirvana and Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick who went on to perform “Cut Me Some Slack” the song Grohl played with Paul McCartney at the Hurricane Sandy benefit concert.

John Fogerty came out and played some of his classic Credence Clearwater Revival songs including the powerful “Fortunate Son”. Stevie Nicks also played a set of songs with a crowd pleasing highlight of “Landslide” with Grohl playing a twelve string guitar.

Dave Grohl will be playing with the Sound City Players again on January 31st at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angles. His Sound City documentary will be released theatrically on the same day and will be released digitally on February 1st. The soundtrack for Sound City will be released March 12th on Grohl’s Roswell Records.
