The Rolling Stones Officially Not Playing Coachella

After much speculation following multiple hints and ongoing rumors, the Rolling Stones will not be playing at the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, on April 12-14, 2013, according to an unnamed source close to the band.

The source would not comments on the rumors, but Rolling Stone claims that the band was informed they would not be granted top billing at the event, despite rumors for several months they would be have a headline slot.

The band’s official app had a photo of a stone rolling on the Empire Polo Grounds, the location where the Coachella Festival is held every year. The same photo was posted on the event’s Facebook page. But a Goldenvoice representative, the festival’s promoter, later clarified that the image was of an actual polo ball in reference to the festival venue, and not a hint towards the band.

But after much speculation over who will be playing on this year’s edition, sources close to the band began stating the Rolling Stones will not be one of the much speculated acts to be taking part of the event.

Despite them not playing at Coachella, they will still be touring in 2013. No official tour dates have been announced yet.

Band singer Mick Jagger spoke to Rolling Stone about their touring plans following their 50th anniversary shows in London, New York and New Jersey.

“I’m going to see what’s on the table and discuss it with everyone. We’ll announce it when we’ve figured it out.”

Band guitarist Keith Richards added:

“Really, all you’re going to have to do is wait for an announcement . . . We barely got off the starting blocks. It would be dopey to bring things up to this level and say, ‘Well, that’s that, 50 years, bye-bye.'”
