After three years of prep-work, Robert Zemeckis has canceled his plans to remake Yellow Submarine. Though the planning for the film was already well along, Zemeckis canceled the project for fear of it not living up to the original film.
Even with many successful films under his belt such as Forrest Gump, Back To The Future, and more recently Flight, Zemeckis has canceled the long anticipated Yellow Submarine, but not due to lack of studio interest.
“That would have been a great one, to bring the Beatles back to life…But it’s probably better not to be remade — you’re always behind the eight-ball when you do a remake.”
According to Rolling Stone, even when Disney, Zemeckis’ partner in the project, dropped out last year, he continued on with production plans. Though actors and a tribute band had already been cast and the producer could have brought the project to other studios, it didn’t feel right to Zemeckis. Now, however, he is focusing on other projects and Yellow Submarine remains an exclusive Beatles original.
