Oakland based Matt Fishbeck, as Holy Shit!, has gained a cult status for inspiring numerous musicians and artists through a multitude of projects. Recently he’s gained a wider recognition due to past collaborations – projects with John Maus, Girls, and Ariel Pink. His 2006 record with Ariel Pink, Stranded at Two Harbours, is somewhat of a lost gem for those long late night drives into oblivion. A lo-fi wearied album nostalgic of a carefree youth but burned out by failed ideals. Albeit a pretentious dandy, Fishbeck’s sound has moved from intentional careless lo-fi, often depressed or nihilistic, to a brighter sound with poignant musicianship and poetic vocals. His few 2012 released tracks make indie pop worth listening to.
