Thao & the Get Down Stay Down has just released “Holy Roller,” a track off of the band’s upcoming album, We the Common. The new LP is out February 5, on Ribbon Music. The track is available for download and streaming. The critically-acclaimed, Thao Nguyen says:
[The track] was the first song I wrote for the new record… it marked a shift in how I operate. I was streadily, in an overdue way, becoming grateful for everything and everyone I had. I tried to capture a sense of revival and a determination to be better.
We the Common was recorded in San Francisco at the Tiny Telephone Studios and the Elmwood Studio in Dallas. John Congleton and the track produced the album and “Kindness be Conceived” includes a duet by Joanna Newsom. Thao adds:
We the Common is an album about wanting be a human who tries and is grateful for the opportunity. It is about wanting to be better and closer to people. I have had over a year respite from touring and recording –in this year I started really trying to be a part of the community I live in and the family I was born into.
