Thom Yorke released the first single off his Atoms for Peace Project, “Default,” back in September. The project features Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea and Radiohead’s longtime producer Nigel Godrich. The track was available on iTunes and planned to release 12” vinyl with B-side “What the Eyeballs Did” on November 19. However, XFM’s Mary Anne Hobbs in London premiered the cut on Halloween.
“Default” is in a similar vein to Yorke’s previous album, The Eraser. On the track, of course, Yorke’s vocals are as strong and commanding as ever. “What the Eyeballs Did” runs with Flea’s energetic bassline and AFP’s drummer, Joey Waronker supplies complex instrumentals. Percussionist Mauro Refosco and Producer Nigel Godrich add intoxicating synth beats for a full-on gauzy atmosphere.
Atoms for Peace’s full-lenth record is to set to drop sometime in 2013. The album title has yet to be revealed but the gang has already announced a full tracklist.
