Alt-J’s An Awesome Wave Wins Barclaycard Mercury Prize

Alt-J, the UK alternative indie pop quartet, was awarded the Barclaycard Mercury Prize. The title celebrates the album, An Awesome Wave and honors it as the best British Album in the past year. PJ Harvey was won this award last year.

Alt-J is comprised of Gwil Sainsbury (guitarist/bassist), Joe Newman (guitar/vocals), Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboards) and Thom Green (drums). The band met during their time at Leeds University in 2007. Their debut album, An Awesome Wave, pulls from genres such as folk, rock, pop, hip-hop and atmospheric indie rock.
