An energetic roar of occupy energy will penetrate the walls of New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge for an Occupy Wallstreet Telethon “The People’s Bailout” on Nov. 15, 2012. The digital telethon will feature Mangum, Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Guy Picciotto of Fugazi, Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio, Janeane Garofalo, comedians, Television personalities’ and more.
The charity events goal is to raise $50,000 for Strike Debt. For those unable to attend the fundraiser it will be Webcasted at Rolling Jubilee and have an option available to donate digitally. Tickets will be available for sale on Friday Nov. 2, 2012 starting at 10:00 a.m.
The mission of Strike Debt is to shed light on the fraudulent ways commoditized debt exists in America. The events announcment noted, “Big banks and corporations walk away from their debts and leave taxpayers to pick up the tab. It’s time for a bailout of the people, by the people.”
Pitchfork pointed out “The movement’s inability to produce instantaneous, tangible results, which has led many Occupiers to pinpoint debt as a central issue and work from there.”
