Whether they’re being the reason for blood and broken glass at this year’s Psych Fest, fireworks and puke on the stage at Fun Fun Fun Fest, or my bruised aching ribs circa ACL Aftershow 2010, the Black Lips take live garage rock to a beautiful place. No matter how many times you make it out to see these drunk psychedelic flower punks, their shows remain abundant in fun because you can never predict what their set will be like from what songs will find themselves on the list, or the environment you’ll find yourself in while rocking out. ‘Jack the Ripper’ and flying rolls of toilet paper and streamers? Sure! ‘Modern Art’ and a little side stage puking and blown out amps? Sounds grand! ‘Bad Kids’ and broken glass with a little bit of walls of the venue shaking? Awesome. It’s jangly, it’s organic, it’s punk, it’s garage, it’s lively, it’s lovely, it may contain pyro, streamers, badass guitar abuse, one very crazy drummer, guest appearances by flying beer, other questionable liquids,and…. and….??????….. it’s….. A BLACK LIPS SHOW!
