The Smashing Pumpkin’s 1995 double album Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness will be reissued on December 3rd in North America and December 4th internationally via EMI Music.
Following EMI Music’s reissuing the band’s first three albums, 1991’s Gish, 1993’s Siamese Dream and 1994’s Pisces Iscariot, Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness will also be getting the full remastering treatment, as well as an expanded 5 CD+DVD Deluxe Box Set, including 64 bonus tracks of previously unreleased material or alternate versions of songs from that era. The DVD includes a 1996 live show from the Brixton Academy in London, along with bonus performances from the German music television show Rockpalast from 1996.
A 12 X 12 lift top box with magnetic closure, revamped cover art and velvet lined disc holders encases the entire package, along with two books of personal notes, lyrics, new collage artwork, along with a Decoupage kit for creating personal scenes from the Mellon Collie universe.
The album was originally released on October 24, 1995 and debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album was certified nine times platinum (or Diamond certification by the RIAA for sales of 10,000,000 discs and digital equivalent per disc (five million copies of the double album).
Produced by Billy Corgan, Mark “Flood” Ellis (U2, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode) and Alan Moulder, the album featured hit songs such as the 1996 Grammy Award winning song “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” (1996 Best Hard Rock Performance), “1979” and “Tonight, Tonight”.
