At Bardot’s regular School Night! event newcomer ZZ Ward played to an extremely crowded house. For a Monday night where most folks would be hesitant to head out a late-evening concert, Bardot’s tiny side-stage foyer room had nearly an inch to move. ZZ Ward drew in the crowd, and made strong use of a relatively short set to impress the collective audience of hipster music fans and industry scene watchers. Playing with a stellar backing band (her bassist and guitarist could really shred), ZZ Ward brought the familiar combination of poppy soul that many folks will associate with the Amy Winehouse/Adele’s of the last ten years. Thankfully, ZZ can sing well enough, and seems lively and energetic in front of a packed house. It may not be revolutionary, but at the minimum, it was a fun time.
