If Lower Dens‘ newest album Nootropics was a painting, it’d definitely be a Van Gogh – a brilliant, moody piece of art filled with unexpected intricacies and tiny brushstrokes that seem to move languidly to their own rhythm.
Hopefully that sentence intrigued you (and made you cringe a little) (nobody likes a pretentious music blogger, amiright?). Upptiy art-speak aside, this Baltimore band really does effuse an Impressionist painting of sorts – their newest album is a hazy wash of ethereal soundscapes and pensive embellishments, with lead singer Jana Hunter’s deep alto weaving effortlessly in and out of each track. It’s all pretty damn mesmerizing.
They’re heading at The Troubadour on Saturday, and if you’ve got a penchant for the dark and dreamy (sorry- not talking about Orli or Mr. Franco here) make sure to be at the show.
