Glen Hansard gained considerable notoriety for his role as musically gifted street performer in the movie Once – remember a little song he wrote with co-star Markéta Irglová called “Falling Slowly“? The one you blared from your speakers as you sobbed and vowed never to let go of your one true love, even though your only squeeze at the time was your cat? Of course you remember. We all do. But in case you weren’t aware, Mr. Hansard has quite bit of other notable accomplishments other than his ability to distill heartache into gut-wrenching ballads. Whether it be his two-decade stint with his band The Frames or his duo project with at-the-time-gf Markéta The Swell Season or his more recent singles (one of which was surprisingly defiant track on the Hunger Games soundtrack), his musical prowess is undeniable. And damn, can he make us cry. (Or for those of you more stoic types, “sniffle”).
Ready your heart and Kleenexes because he’s playing a FREE SHOW at Amoeba Music on Monday, June 18 in support of his solo release Rhythm and Repose.
