Lana Del Rey and Zebra Katz at the El Rey Theatre 6/5/12

Brooklyn’s Zebra Katz (Ojay Morgan and Njena Reddd Roxxx) opened for Lana Del Rey the last two nights of her three-night stint at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. On night three, Ojay sported his own band’s t-shirt and hat supporting Zebra Katz’s most popular song, “Ima Read.”

Zebra Katz made sure there was never a dull moment and that all eyes were on them.  At one point Ojay hopped off the stage and right into the crowd while Njena Redd Roxxx continued dancing and crawling and singing onstage. It was easy to get hooked on the songs since they’re all upbeat and lyrics are simple and repetitive

The set was short, only about 25 minutes, but they managed to squeeze in six songs. The crowd at the sold out show had mixed reactions during the sexy and flamboyant set: some were dancing, some were confused, some were intrigued. In any case, it was undeniably quite the performance.

Two hours after the doors opened, NYC’s Lana Del Rey graced the El Rey stage for the third night in a row to her fans ranging from annoying prissy high school girls who would do anything to see and meet Lana Del Rey to very old men. She looked Barbie-esque and wore a dress so short that those in the front row caught a glimpse of her ass a few times. When she hit her low notes, it was enough to give anyone chills.

A larger, more enthused crowd.

This set was also rather short- at only 45 minutes- and there was no encore, but she managed to hug and kiss almost everyone in the front row, which was cute.
