In a surprising bit of news, Lauryn Hill of the Fugees is being charged with evading taxes for the years of 2005, 2006 and 2007. Hill is faces charges that each carry a maximum penalty of a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Failing to file income tax returns with the IRS for three consecutive years does not come without consequences. On top of that, Hill was doing particularly well financially in the three years she is being charged for, with a net total of $1.8 million in income. Hill will appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael A. Shipp on June 29 in Newark to address these charges.
