Frontman of System of a Down, Serj Tankian, has recently revealed that the band currently has no plans for a new album. Although it seems that System of a Down may not release new material, fans still have the opportunity to catch the live this summer as they tour alongside the Deftones.
Perhaps this might not come as a surprise to those who saw the band tour last summer, for the debuted not a single new song while on their world tour. Even this summer, fans can catch System of a Down touring North America with the Deftones but it appears that they will continue to draw from their past records. As reported by NME, plans for a followup to 2005’s Hypnotize have not been made.
Here’s what Serj had to say:
When people are asking, ‘When can we get new music from you?’ I think it’s the biggest compliment in the world. We have not made a plan to do it as of yet. I think it’s something that we’ll get together at the right time when we all have the head space to do it. But, you know, it hasn’t been that time yet, so I think everyone will know when it is. It’s as simple as that.
Those tired of waiting for a new System of a Down record can enjoy Serj Tankian’s third solo album, Harakiri, when it hits stores July 9.
