Awesome
The duo, THEEsatisfaction’s, newest release, Awe Naturale, is its first release on the Sub Pop Record label, and is a fine example of what these two have to offer for the future of hip hop. Comparisons to this group were made to De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. However, if you go into this album thinking it’s going to be like A Low End Theory, then you are going to be disappointed.
The album is jam-packed full of some of the most interesting and beautiful backing tracks heard in a while. Songs like “Bitch” and “Queens” leave you with the feeling of hope for the future of hip hop. Musically, this album is amazing the beats and rhythms keeps your head bobbing the whole way through.
This album would be perfect for subtle background music or cranked all the way up at your next house party. The duo’s harmonies play well off of each other and never feel forced or out of place. Lyrically, though, the LP may leave you feeling cheated. The potential was there, the atmosphere was set, but in the end, the words weren’t in the same league. The only exception to that being the songs “God,” “Enchantruss” and “Needs” – two of which feature Palaceer Lazaro, of Shabazz Palaces, showing up towards the end of the LP.
With that said, this is still an outstanding record. Awe Naturale is a breath of fresh air, compared with some of the carbon copy acts that have been dropping LPs lately.
THEEsatisfaction are definitely a group to keep your eye on, and if this is any indication of what they are capable of doing, then it’s going to be a bright future for them indeed.
