The final performance at the first week of Coachella was one that will definitely go down in the books. A slew of famous musicians shared the stage with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg when they took the main stage by storm at 10:35 PM on Sunday. View their entire set after the jump.
In terms of legendary hip-hop performances, this one will go down in the books. Not only did Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg play an extensive set that featured some of their biggest hits over the last two decades, but they also called on Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, and Warren G to accompany their performance. This, surely, would have been enough to satisfy their Coachella crowd, but the two rappers took things one step further by including a hologram of Tupac on stage. This highly realistic hologram was about as close to reincarnation as the music world has ever gotten, and according to TMZ, even Tupac’s mom was deeply moved by the startling recreation of her son.
It was Dr. Dre who came up with the idea, who approached AV Concepts to make this possible. For those unfamiliar with the company, they are also responsible for the CGI work done on Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Jeff Bridges in TRON: Legacy, and Kevin Bacon in X-Men: First Class. After years of rumors that Tupac was still alive somewhere, Dr. Dre found a way to make that true for a short moment at Coachella. Check out the full performance below.
