Now that the Sunset Junction Music Fest is no more, there’s a new local-oriented music fest in town: the Silver Lake Jubilee. This two day long event takes place over Memorial Day weekend and features the same eclectic mix of local music favorites, food trucks and comedy events as it did last year. However, tix are no longer $5 -they’re $20 for one day, $35 for a weekend pass. But before you freak out and start lamenting your poor broke self, check out the line-up in the poster below:
….Not just your typical neighborhood-music-fest bands, eh? In my opinion, def worth the increase in price. (The festival – probably predicting some sort of outcry – actually released an honest break down of where every dollar in the upped price goes. Just in case you’re curious: $10 to community programs, $4 to administration costs, $4 to city fees and insurance, and the remaining $2 divided between marketing costs and a “re-investment fund.”)
Soul singer/rapper Aloe Blacc is headlining along with Latin-groove band Kinky hailing from Monterrey, Mexico (who I admit I’ve never heard of, but they sound intriguing if just from their name alone). Other local faves that have me more than a little giddy include none other than punk-influenced rockers Abe Vigoda, grunge punk band FIDLAR, Eastern Conference Champions, Allah-Lahs, Incan Abraham and Chasing Kings . There’s also supposed to be some sort of “community block party”, which sounds promising – neighborhood bonding for the win!
It’s more than a month away so if I were you I’d carefully set aside your twenty, lest you accidentally spend it on something way less worthwhile – like food or water or shelter. Kiddinggg.
See you there!
