Doomtree Live in Hollywood, February 2, 2012

Doomtree was worried that the crowd at The Troubadour would be “too cool” and “looking too good” to party. But when instructed, the hip hop fans jumped around, messing up their looks and proving that the LA crowd wasn’t too “Hollywood” to enjoy this Minneapolis group.

The self-described “Midwest Hip Hop Collective” played a solid two hours. Backed by DJs Paper Tiger and Lazerbeak, the diverse group of emcees – P.O.S., Sims, Dessa, Mike Mictlan, and Cecil Otter – rhymed continuously, sometimes solo, sometimes in pairs, or just trading off for an entire song. Doomtree didn’t need to worry: by the end of the encore, the packed Troubadour crowd looked sweaty and disheveled; definitely not “too cool” for this unique act.
