Tenacious D is back and in fine form. They have just released two wonderful treats in support of Rize of the Fenix, their forthcoming album out May 15 via Columbia. Watch their epic video and listen to “Rize of the Fenix” to get pumped up about the release.
In the true Tenacious D spirit, the band has put out a mock inspirational video called “To Be the Best” that includes a fake, hyperbolized telling of their revival. Apparently, all it took for the band to get their mojo back was the assassination of Val Kilmer and extreme training provided by Dave Grohl and Josh Groban. To witness Tenacious D in all their glory, just watch the video below.
After watching the highly entertaining video, it’s easy to forget that Tenacious D is actually good. They spend so much time belittling their own creative endeavor and discussing the shortcomings of The Pick of Destiny, though there’s actually a lot more going on than what lies on the surface. They emphasize the comedy aspect of their parody rock, so it takes a careful listen to realize how strong the songwriting is and how well the track flows. For a first listen, head over to Beats Per Minute and hear “Rize of the Fenix.”
