After touring worldwide, selling over 6 million albums, and hitting the top of charts in Rolling Stone Magazine, the Australian rock group known as JET has called it quits. Known best for hitting the top of the charts with the single “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” (which appeared on an iTunes commercial, various Box Office hit movies and videogames) Jet has been conquering what they had set out to do when they formed 11 years ago in Melbourne, Australia. More details about the split after the jump.
The Cester brothers, Nic and Chris, Cameron Mundey and Mark Wilson started the band with their heads up high and aiming for new heights. Their 2003 LP, Get Born, broke the record for being the highest selling debut in Australian history and it wasn’t too long till it became a huge hit in the States. It’s a shame that a band that has tremendously grown since their 2009 release of “Shaka Rock” has thrown in the towel. Not only were they unique in many ways, they also inspired tons of bands that gravitated to the sound of their music.
They left on this note at their Monday press release:
After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group, From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and good night.
Despite the band’s disappointing news, they will all continue different musical endeavors. Keep on the lookout for Damn Dogs, which fortunately is the side project of Chris Cester and Mark Wilson announced last year through an interview from Alternative Press Magazine. JET‘s music will continue to live on through everything they have accomplished and they will definitely be missed.
