At the insanely crowded Hype Hotel, the electro dance outfit Neon Indiian played one of their few non-DJ set SXSW shows. On album almost entirely composed and produced by the band’s main figure Alan Palomo, here they were a four-piece complete with guitars. The band”‘s biggest strength live is the quality of their sound design. Each wash of synthesizers or flourish of effects floated on as if created by some mythical fantasy forest. The biggest liability was that Palomo’s vocals (normally a speaking-heavy style of singing were lost in the mix. It was more than enough to dance to, but the songs were a bit lost in the drones.
