Lively Sounds From Nowheresville
Sounds From Nowheresville is the self produced sophomore album from English musical duo The Ting Tings. The band consists of Katie White (vocals, guitar, bass drums, bass guitar, cowbells), and Jules De Martino (drums, lead guitar, bass guitar, vocals, piano.) “Ting Ting” was the name of a Chinese colleague of White at a shop where she once worked, it’s also a Mandarin term for “Bandstand” which she liked and took on as the bands name.
Lead singer Katie White got her music career started in a girl group punk trio called TKO, (which stands for Technical Knock Out), you can hear slight punk influences in this latest album in catchy songs like “Hang It Up”, and “Hit Me Down Sonny” which is reminiscent of early No Doubt. Katie’s vocals are bold and strong and yet beautifully melodic at times, especially in the song “In Your Life”, which is slower and also somewhat poignant, expressing feelings of longing.
This album is a mix of different music styles, ranging from acoustic folk to danceable electro & good old rock and roll. It gives a good blend of different sounds which is both interesting and also shows the bands diverse talent. Though unlike the first album, Sounds From Nowheresville is not bad. Overall, this is a fun album to listen to; it’s happy, upbeat, danceable music. Anyone who is a fan of acoustic folk, pop, & edgy rock and roll should enjoy listening to this.
