After the much-anticipated set from Fiona Apple, Sharon Van Etten took the stage next. Van Etten is a spritely presence and charms the crowd without over-enunciated histrionics. Her voice evokes a smooth and meditative feeling. Each song is a dreamy and soothing contemplation. The big question about Van Etten is “Where will she go from here?” She could take the quiet beauty to it’s logical extreme into Mazzy Star territory, or she could aim for a more confectionary hit. Here’s hoping the former rather than the latter.
