For those of you who think the Bag Raiders are the greatest thing to come out of Australia since kiwis, you might wanna expand your musical horizons and check out this event. (No offense to the Bag Raiders- keep lovin’ on them!) A whole slew of up-and-coming Aussie talent is tearing up the Echo on Sunday March 11, and I can think of few things more enjoyable than 13 talented Aussie bands in one room complete with delicious BBQ fare (with vegetarian options too, so no need to freak out you hipster non-meat eaters).
Of the stellar line-up, I’m a particular fan of Oh Mercy‘s sunny, pop-tinged indie melodies (download a free song from their website here) and Chet Faker‘s ambient electro beats (his sexy smooth cover of “No Diggity” put him on the radar as it hit the coveted #1 spot on Hype Machine– check it out here). This Aussie BBQ tour is the 4th one of its kind, and they’ve graciously decided to stop in LA on their way to tear up music king cornucopia SXSW. So grab your bib, your best Aussie accent (“G’day mate! Fancy some shrimp on the barbie?”….okay maybe not) and get ready to chow down and get down to some quality jams from down under.
