January 24’s Oscar Nominations had a few notable snubs along with its many nods. Among them were Trent Reznor, whose anticipated score to David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was on the shortlist for this year’s nomination, but which failed to appear among the five selected films. Reznor was awarded last year’s award for the score to the 2011 Best Picture, The Social Network.
Other notable omissions include The National, Zooey Deschanel, and Jónsi, all of whom were being considered for a Best Original Song award. Also left out was Golden Globe winner Madonna after her song “Masterpiece” was reportedly disqualified due to a technicality.
This year’s award for Best Original Song is only two nominees long, including “Real in Rio” by Siedah Garrett (Rio), and “Man or Muppets” by Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie (The Muppets).
A complete list of nominees is available at the Oscars’ official website.
