Veronica Falls w/Bleached @ Bootleg Bar 2/25

I’m currently going through a phase where I’ve become quite the Anglophile (I blame a recent crazy sojourn I had to London), and with that comes a renewed fervor for British bands.  Enter Veronica Falls, London-based band that’s been on my radar ever since I downloaded their dreamy single “Come On Over” from an online playlist months ago, but only recently have rediscovered and explored further – and am I ever glad I have.  Pitchfork calls their sound “the ghosts of pop past conjured convincingly and intimately enough to feel like flesh and blood” and BBC states their album is “filled with enough dark delights to send tingles up and down your spine” – intriguingly spooky stuff.   Sure their fixation on darkness can be a bit morose, but there’s enough frenzied, reverb-drenched guitar strumming and a surprising lightness to lead singer Roxanne Clifford’s voice that you won’t even notice that half the time she’s crooning about ghosts and death.

Their show at the Bootleg on February 25 is one of the last stops on their North American tour, and the Bootleg’s vibe and size seems to be the perfect setting for them to perform – prepare yourself for some seriously chilling shoegaze that’s as darkly fixated as it is catchy. Cheers!
