Aaron Freeman (a.k.a. Gene Ween) Announces First Solo Album Marvelous Clouds for April 2012 Release

Aaron Freemon, better known as Gene Ween of Ween, is finally lifting the veil of persona for his first solo record.  This effort, entitled Marvelous Clouds, is due out April 10 on Partisan Records.

Although Ween has sold over a million copies worldwide during the course of their career, this solo release will give Freeman a chance to test the waters as a solo musician.  Marvelous Clouds will consist of 13 interpretations of songs written by poet/songwriter Rod McKuen.  This effort should serve to recreate Aaron Freeman as a solo musician as well as commemorate the legendary beat poet whose music and poetry inspired many.

McKuen was heavily influenced by the San Francisco Beat scene, such as the likes of Ginsberg and Kerouac.  Though the Beat movement is often considered a counterculture, McKuen’s work broke out into the public sphere and saw widespread success.  He became a top selling poet and songwriter with critical acclaim including two Oscar nominations, one Pulitzer nomination, and tens of millions of book and record sales.  Famous renditions of his songs have been recorded by Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, and Madonna.  Marvelous Clouds will serve as a fitting tribute to the renowned poet and a revitalization of Freeman’s career.
