Legendary L.A. venue The Music Box closed down seemingly without warning last week, Lina Lecaro’s blog LA Slush reported. The closure is temporary, however, as tickets for German DJ ATB are on sale for a January 19 date, despite no mention on The Music Box calendar, as well as a January 26 Angels and Airwaves show.
Venue promoter Goldenvoice confirmed in a press release later that day that indeed the closure would be temporary:
“At this time, it is our understanding that the closing of The Music Box is a short term closure, please be patient with us as we work out the details as they pertain to our previously scheduled shows.”
LA Slush reported that after last January’s run of “The Pee-Wee Herman Show” was moved from the Music Box to L.A. Live’s Club Nokia, two of the three owners decided to sell their shares and exit the business. The landlord became aware of the change in ownership and after eventually served an eviction notice after months of clashing with the new owners.
