In a previous story, we reported about the Shin’s forthcoming album. Now, the band has released a first track, “Simple Song”, via their mailing list. Come spring 2012, Port of Morrow will be released and the band will be hitting the road with a new lineup.
Port of Morrow is set to be released March 20 via both Columbia and James Mercer’s own Aural Apothecary label. The songs will be made available in pretty much every format imaginable, including CD, vinyl, download, even a limited edition deluxe version on reel-to-reel tape will be available on the Shins’ website. Listen to their single, “Simple Song”, below.
Port of Morrow will primarily be a testament to the vision of James Mercer, who wrote and performed the majority of the music featured on the album. A slew of guests helped make the record possible, including Janet Weiss of Wild Flag, Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse, Eric D. Johnson of the Fruit Bats, aand former Shins members Dave Hernandez and Marty Crandall. These former members are no longer included in the band, but rather are featured guests on the forthcoming album.
In April, the Shins will be hitting the road with a new lineup. Along with Mercer, Modest Mouse’s Joe Plummer, singer/songwriter Richard Swift, Yuuki Matthews of Crystal Skulls, and singer/songwriter Jessica Dobson will form the touring outfit.
