It has been an unfortunate couple months for GWAR. We recently reported that their guitarist Cory Smoot, who played the character Flattus Maximus, died due to a heart attack. Now, the band has been forced to cancel their European tour due to poor ticket sales.
The European leg of GWAR’s “Return of the World Maggot” tour was supposed to begin in January of 2012, but after several promoters cancelled shows because of poor ticket sales, the band realized they could not afford the tour and was forced to cancel.
GWAR spokesman, Dave Brockie, commented “We are super disappointed that this happened, and we apologize to all of our European fans for cancelling the tour. We did everything we could possibly do to save it, but it just didn’t work out. The tickets are fully refundable so make sure you get your money back!”
This news only adds to the misfortunes that GWAR has seen in the last couple months. Hopefully, the band’s luck will soon change and they will be able to move forward unfazed by Smooty’s death and the cancellation of the European tour.
