Jimmy Fallon must not have taken The Roots’ decision to leave his beatboxing contributions to undun on the cutting room floor, since we saw the group showcase the same album on December 7 episode of Fallon. Check out a video of the full performance after the jump.
Guest collaborators Bilal, D.D. Jackson, and the Metropolis Ensemble performed a medley of “Tip the Scale” and “Redford,” in an impressive demonstration of both songs’ complexities and large-scale sound.
The group also took on a performance of “The OtherSide” for a taste of vintage soul. The performances manage to capture the scope of the ensemble while maintaining a degree of intimacy and control.
undun is The Roots’ eleventh studio album and first concept album, detailing the life of the fictional character Redford Stephens (check out a video of the titular song’s performance below). The album premiered on December 6 and is available as a CD or digital copy.
