The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences revealed their list of nominees for the 54th annual Grammy Awards yesterday, and this year the list is surprisingly indie-artist centered.
The Record, Album and Song of the Year categories show the Grammy’s indie nod most prevalently, with Adele, Bon Iver and Mumford & Sons garnering nominations in each category. Other nominated artists in those categories include Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
The Best New Artist category also highlights some indie artists, most notably—and strangely—Bon Iver, a group that released their debut LP, For Emma, Forever Ago, back in 2008. Skrillex, Nicki Minaj, The Band Perry and J. Cole also got Best New Artist nods.
Mumford & Sons also garnered a Best Rock Song nomination for “The Cave,” which saw its release back in February 2010 on Sigh No More. Somehow, the NARAS board determined that album was eligible for the 2012 awards ceremony.
Additional nominated artists include The Decemberists, Foster the People, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, The Civil Wars, Radiohead and Robyn. The leading nominee this year is Kanye West, who holds seven nominations.
Check out the full list of nominees over at the official Grammy Awards site. The Grammys are scheduled to air Feb 12 at 8:00 PM EST on CBS.
